"My friends; Love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic and we’ll change the world."

Through a random connection last year, I met Cate Cameron; an amazing human being and changent [change-agent]. Through her photography, she brings to light the faces and stories of some of the world’s most challenged people in relation to clean water access, child marriage, and basic human rights issues.

Cate recently began a movement called Cameras 4 Change with a simple message; it costs only $500 to send a girl to school for a year in Kenya. In U.S. dollars, that’s equivalent to an iPad or a round trip plane ticket coast to coast. The July campaign only needs 14 more $25 donations to become a success. A small sacrifice can go a long way half way across the globe. Peace.

In response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake, a group of Architecture for Humanity volunteers came together to form Students Rebuild. They called to action middle and high school students around the globe, to work together in helping rebuild stronger, safer, and permanent schools.

This year, in response to the Sendai, Japan earthquake and tsunami, Students Rebuild teamed up with DoSomething.org to host the Paper Cranes for Japan challenge; a simple yet powerful gesture of creating and promoting hope. The movement brought in over 2 million cranes from youth in over 37 countries, raising substantial funds to support the long-term rebuilding efforts in Sendai.

This month, the group is envisioning ways to use these donated cranes as “sculpture” to define and highlight space. Awesome work guys!

Have you ever wondered what that smallest [and cheapest] piece of real-estate in New York City is, and what it looks like? You may have stepped on it, if you’ve ever walked past/into the [West] Village Cigars shop on the south-west corner of Seventh Avenue and Christopher Street. At its doorstep, the 500 square-inch triangle w imbedded mosaic was purchased by Village Cigars from Mr Hess for $1000 in 1938.
